DEEP PLUM EMBROIDERED HANDWOVEN TUSSAR SAREE

Tussar is a wild silk. It cannot be farmed the way mulberry silk is — the cocoons are gathered from forest trees, and the yarn that comes from them is uneven, textured and naturally golden. That irregularity is what gives a Tussar saree its body and its quiet sheen, and it is also why it resists machines.

Every stage here is done by hand. The yarn is reeled by hand, the saree is woven on a handloom over several days, and the embroidery, printing or dyeing on it is done by artisans one motif at a time. A single piece passes through several pairs of hands
before it reaches us.

This is also why each saree is made once. We buy in single pieces, not in runs — when a design sells, it does not return.

The price reflects the days of skilled work in the cloth, and the wages of the people who did it. The small irregularities you will find on close inspection are not flaws. They are the evidence that no machine was involved.
